The Wills Eye Institute in Philadelphia was established in 1832 and has been a leading eye hospital with a strong national and international reputation. Wills Eye Institute has traditionally attracted a large volume of patients with common and rare ocular diseases and is presently one of the largest eye hospitals in the world. In the 1970s, ophthalmology subspecialties evolved and in 1974, the Ocular Oncology Service of Wills Eye Institute was established.
The Ocular Oncology Service at Wills Eye Institute has been under the leadership of Dr. Carol Shields and Dr. Jerry Shields for the past 25+ years and has steadily grown into a world renown facility for the diagnosis and management of patients with eye tumors and related conditions.
